Gallery Administration

Administrate Gallery Categories | Submit and Upload Images | Administrate Images
Gallery Configuration | Gallery Mass Delete | Administrate Pages
Submission Permissions | Custom Tag Information

The idea of this module is to create an area on your website where people can both submit and view pictures in an organized photo album type format. Click on "Gallery Administration" in "Admin Suite" and you will be taken to the window shown below.

The first option we should explore is "Administrate Gallery Categories". Click on it and you will be directed to the window shown below.

Administrate Gallery Categories

Gallery categories will be the sections and subsections under which the pictures in your gallery are shown. To create a new category, first type the name of the category in the "Category Name" field. If you would like this new category to be a sub category of a pre-existing category, then you should select that category in the "Parent Category" pull-down list. If you want this new category to be a top-level (no parent) category, just leave this set to "None". Finally, you want to write a short blurb about what type of pictures will appear in this category in the "Category Description" text box. Once you have finished entering your new category, don't forget to click "Submit"!!!

You can also approve and edit categories from this window. If a category is active, it will be shown with a highlighted checkmark and if it is not, it will have a highlighted x-mark . To change the status of a category, click on the darkened of the two symbols. If you would like to edit the category, click on the "Edit" button to the right of the category and you will be able to edit all the same information you just entered when you created a new category. Finally if you would like to delete a category you can do so by clicking on the appropriate "Delete" button.

When you are finished adding and editing your categories, click on "Picture Gallery".

The next option in "Gallery Administration" is "Submit and Upload Images". Click on this and you will be directed to the window shown below.

Submit and Upload Images

From this window you can submit new images to your gallery to be displayed on your site. The first thing you have to do is enter in the e-mail and password of a Submitter account. If you don't have one already then you will to create one.

Next you have to select a picture to upload (.gif .jpg or .png). To do this you should click on "Browse", which will bring up a file chooser. Select an image file and click "Open". "Image Title" is the title you want associated with your picture. The "Image Topic" pull-down list allows you to select the category under which your picture will appear. Finally, the "Description" text box should be filled with any extra information you would like to post with the picture. When you are done filling out the image form, don't forget to click "Submit"!!!

Once you have submitted your image, click on "Picture Gallery" in the top left of the window. The next option in "Gallery Administration" is "Administrate Images".

Click on this and you will be directed to the window shown below.

Administrate Images

This window allows you to control the images that are already uploaded to your gallery.

There are three pull-down lists at the top that allow you to specify how you view the images listed on the page. The first allows you to choose the gallery category you would like to display, the second one allows you to display messages of a certain approval status and the third one allows you to specify the number of images displayed on each page.

Next there is a list of all the images that meet the requirements you have made in the three pull-down lists. "Image Title" is the title that appears above the image when viewed. "Submitter Name" is the user that posted the image message and "Time Submitted" is as it would imply. The status of an image is indicated by a highlighted checkmark if it is approved, a highlighted x-mark if it is rejected and a highlighted question mark if it is pending. To switch between the three states you can click on one of the darkened two buttons. Keep in mind that an event must be approved to appear on the front-end of your site.

If you would like to edit an image you can do so by clicking the appropriate "Edit" button to the right of the image. This will take you to the window shown below.

From here, you can edit all the same information you originally entered in the "Submit Image" window. If you would like to view the full size image in a pop-up window, click on the "View" button to do so.

Finally if you would like to remove any of the listed images you can do so by clicking the "Delete" button to the far right of the image. When you are done click on "Picture Gallery" in the upper left of the window.

The next option in "Gallery Administration" is "Gallery Configuration". Click on it to be taken to the window shown below.

Gallery Configuration

From this window you can specify the way you want the images in each gallery to be shown. The first set of options is the "Default Configuration". This is the display setting that will be used for a category if a specific configuration is not found. The "Layout Type" is the main display option and requires some detailed explanation.

Three/Two/One Column
These types show just the thumbnails in the number of columns specified by the specific type.
Slide Show
This type only works with the ranking module. It shows one full size picture on a page and waits until you rank the picture before it moves to the next picture. This type overrides the number of images per page.
One Full
This type displays one full size image per page and allows you to move on by clicking on "Next". This type also overrides the number of images per page.
Detailed Three Column
This type displays thumbnail images in three columns, but includes the associated titles and descriptions with each one.

The next option is "# Images/Page", which allows you to specify the number of images shown on each page. The third display option lets you choose the order in which the images are displayed (the different settings for this are self explanatory). The last display option, "Show In All", only appears in the category specific configuration and, if selected, allows the images in this category to be shown when a user chooses "All" for his category setting. After making changes to any of rows of on the page click the "Change" button ("Submit" for default) before making any other changes.

Once you are finished changing the configuration of your galleries, click on "Picture Gallery".

The next option in "Gallery Administration" is "Gallery Mass Delete". Click on it to be taken the window shown below.

Gallery Mass Delete

This window allows you to delete either all the pending images or all the rejected images in every category. The number of pending and rejected images are displayed on the page. To delete one of these groups of images, select one of the two options from the pull-down list and click "Delete". Once you are done mass deleting, click on "Picture Gallery" in the top left.

The next option in "Gallery Administration" is "Administrate". Click on it to be taken the window shown below.

Administrate Pages

The idea behind this window is to make changes to the format of the image gallery pages. If you need to make any changes, click on the appropriate "Edit" button, which will take you to the window shown below.

The two options (page name and title image) are for naming your page and you should choose one of them.

If you prefer to have an image for the title instead of the text for the page, you can click on the "Browse" button and choose an image from your hard drive.

Note that a title image replaces the Page Name in the page content, but not on the window title.

Next you need to type your "Meta tags".

What is a Meta Tag?

"Area Content" is the next option. This is the basic text that appears in the page you have selected.

Finally, if you are familiar with HTML you can select "YES" for the "Allow HTML" option. This allows you to enter HTML code in this page’s text fields. If you don't want to put in HTML then select "NO" and your text will be properly formatted.

When you entered all your information, don't forget to click "Submit"!!!!!

Once you are done changing the page setup, you can either click on "Page List" to edit the page setup of the other pages in this module or you can click on "Picture Gallery" to return to the main gallery administration menu.

The next option is "Submission Permissions". Click on it and you will be directed to the window shown below.

Submission Permissions

For this window a highlighted checkmark represents yes and a highlighted x-mark represents no.

The first option is "Allow Visitor Gallery Submission", which if set to "YES" allows users to submit images. If this is set to "NO", then images can only be added from the back-end of the site. The next option is "Auto Approve Gallery Submissions", which if on automatically sets all submitted gallery images to approved instead of pending.

The last two options on this page allow you to be notified via e-mail when someone submits a new gallery image. If you would like to be notified, then select yes for "Email Notification of Gallery Submissions" and put the e-mail address you would like the notification to go to in the text field below that.

When you are done with these options click on "Picture Gallery" in the top left to return to the main gallery administration menu. The final option in "Gallery Administration" is "Custom Tag Information".

The last option is "Custom Tag Information"

Here you will find a list of custom tags that pertain to this module.
