Why Transfer my Domain?
The reason EQUAT would like to transfer your domain is simple. We renew your domain for FREE every year, and can offer a higher level of domain support. Technically, this step can be skipped, but we will not be able to renew your domain for free, and as all registrars domain administration back ends are compeletely different, we will not be able to provide you with in depth DNS issues.
The Transfering Process
To initiate a DNS Transfer, EQUAT will send an email to the Administrative Contact for the domain. This email will be sent from our Domain Registrar OpenSRS.
This email will contain:
Click the transfer link to continue transfering the domain.
When the site loads, you will be prompted for the domain name, and transfer key. Type these into the corresponding input boxes and click the "Retrieve Transfer Request button".
Once the second page loads, this is where you ultimately choose to transfer the domain. On the same page is also a "Whois Comparator" button. Clicking this button allows you to view the current Whois Information and what it will contain after the transfer. EQUAT will set the domains technical contact to EQUAT's contact information, the rest should be a clone of the current whois information. This whois information can be modified at anytime! If you chose to decline the transfer due to bad information, it will delay your site from going live.
Enter your daytime phone number incase OpenSRS needs to contact you due to problems and for security information.
Finally, click the box beside Accept Agreement, then click the Submit Request Button.
Now that you have chosen to transfer your domain to EQUAT, you're current registrar (NSI, Verisign, Network Solutions, Enom, Register.com ect) is going to send you an email. Each of these companies have their own process to double check that you really want to transfer the domain. For example Network Solutions/Verisign send an email to the current Admninistrators Contact email address.
Example of Verisigns "Double Check Email":
About 28 lines into the email the following text
appears:
To authorize a change of registrar, copy and paste the line
below into the subject line of your return email:
[NIC-0205212.5cea]:YOURDOMAIN.COM:12875085:TRANSFER=YES
If you don't respond within 96 hours from the time stamp of
this email, the request to Change Registrar will be denied.
Your current registrar will try and make the "double check" as obscure as possible, but legally they have to transfer it. Please make sure you read ALL emails before carrying out their instructions.
Once you carry out your current registrars instructions, your domain will be transfered to EQUAT's control. The actually transfer will take place approximately around midnight EST of the following night.
